Financial accountsThe parish council could raise a local precept through a tax on village residents, which is collected on their behalf by the borough council as an addition to the council tax.  However, they receive £500 annually from the borough council which is adequate to cover current requirements, particularly as most village and parish works are done by volunteers - and no one wishes to pay more council tax!

Its ability to spend money on non-statutory objectives ’in the interests of the community’ is strictly limited, so it is unlikely to spend money on campaigns, charitable works, or public art but subsidy of the local magazine is allowable at a modest level.  Grants to local organizations such as the Women’s Institute are also permitted.

Accounts

The parish council must submit a detailed annual return to the Audit Commission each year accounting for the use of parish finances.
